What video editing software is best for youtube commentaries? NO EFFECTS?

All i want is to be able to sync up my audio (recorded separately) with my video (recorded with FRAPS) and speed up some parts and cut them easily. This is so stressful for me because i keep getting answers like "Oh yeah without sony vegas pro 10 you can't get anywhere" which is ridiculous because that's so overpriced for what i want?! Yes if i was doing something spectacular then maybe, but no i just want to be able to do what i listed above. Synching in windows movie maker is just a nightmare so please just suggest some really low priced softwares or preferably free softwares! :P thank you!
